The 2012 RCYC Open is taking place on June 8th, 9th, and 10th.

The RCYC Open is part of the Lake Ontario Racing Council (LORC) Regatta series. The series consists of the ABYC Open in May, the RCYC Open in June, the PCYC Open in July, the EYC Open in August, and finally the QCYC Open in September. Unique to the RCYC Open is the invitation extended to dinghies to join the Regatta, which swells our total attendance to be consistently around 200 boats. Generally the RCYC ends up hosting over 700 guests at the Regatta Reception, BBQ Dinner, and evening festivities, this year taking place on Saturday June 9th.

The first race of the RCYC Open on Saturday is called "the Prince of Wales' Race" and the first race on Sunday is called "the Governor General's Race". These races have their own flags and trophies. Many of the trophies that are awarded during the event date back to the earliest days of the club such as the Prince of Wales' Trophy, 1861, donated by Albert Edward, Prince of Wales to commemorate his visit in 1860. The Prince of Wales race has changed its course and date over the years, but it is one of the oldest traditions in the club. There will be daily awards taking place after racing on both Saturday and Sunday on the Racing Lawn at the Royal Canadian Yacht Club.
